This video is about a wilderness longbowhunt for caribou in Southwest Alaska. I was hunting with my bowhunting buddy, Mike Misch. We were hunting a very picturesque area of Alaska and got some spectacular scenery shots to go along with our wildlife video. This was a wilderness drop-in hunt (no outfitters or guides). We flew Super-cubs into the bush and landed on ridge tops to access good hunting spots. We only saw about 300 caribou but we made the most of it and got a lot of caribou chases and stalks on video. We were trophy hunting and, unfortunately, the big ones always seemed to find a way to elude us. We passed up shots at smaller bulls. I missed 2 shots. I mis-judged the range and shot low. Unfortunately, we didn't get any caribou, (it's really hard getting into longbow range - 30 yards) but we got some great video of caribou and other animals.
Now equipped with digital video equipment, we recorded some spectacular footage with picture quality far exceeding what was previously possible. If you're planning an Alaskan caribou hunt, this video is a good example of the type of hunting conditions and situations that you're likely to encounter. It's a day by day account of 14 days in the wilderness.
This video is very entertaining and is a good representation of what bowhunting is all about. Good friends sharing an exciting adventure in an exotic place. Alaska wilderness hunting at it's best.
