Caribou Lament
Alaska01

Oh Caribou, oh Caribou, why do you treat me so?

I only want to shoot you, with an arrow from my bow.

I chase you over mountaintops, and valleys deep and wide.

But when I try to stalk in close, there is no place to hide.

You won't come near my hiding place. You always pass too far.

And when I try to guess your path, it's never where you are.

Why can't you just cooperate? Give us a shot or two.

What is your answer to my plea? Please tell me caribou.

We know you're there bow hunters 3, hiding behind that yellow tree.

We hear you in the underbrush, scurrying about in such a rush.

We see you in your hillside home, or sitting a ridge top all alone.

We smell you across the valley far. We always know right where you are.

We're not so dumb as you perceive. No easy target to achieve.

So if you're not up to the game, go back; go back from whence you came.
